The Japanese characters translate to say A Golden New Year to mark what we assume is the New Year, or a special birthday. This is a well-made wooden sign. Likely helped celebrate a new year, decade or century, or extravagant birthday celebration. Look at the hardware and wooden back braces. The paint is right. It has a slight twist/warp to it. We really like this Asian sign. Antique sign measures 10.25 inches wide x 49 inches tall.
